Waverly Hills Sanatorium
-Mostly quoted by the Waverly Hills itself
Located in Louisville, Ky. Waverly Hills is one of the most popular spots in the Paranormal universe as well as our own.
The land, which Waverly sits on was purchased in 1883 by Major Thomas H. Hays, as the Hays Family house, since the home was far from any schools, Mr. Hays opened a local school for his daughters to attend.
So, he started a one-room schoolhouse on pages lane and hired Lizzie Lee Harris as their schoolteacher.
Ms. Harris had a fondness of Walter Scott’s Waverly Novels and with this, she named the schoolhouse “Waverly School” and Mr. Hays loving that name he then named the property “Waverly Hills”.
In The early 1900s, Jefferson County was ravaged by the outbreak of TB (Tuberculosis), also known as the white plague. There were many cases in Louisville at the time because of the wetlands along the Ohio River, which was perfect for the TB bacteria. To contain the disease two-story wooden sanatorium was constructed. The sanatorium consisted an administrative building and two open air pavilions housing roughly 20 patients for treatments of “early cases”
In the early part of 1911, the city of Louisville began to make preparations to building a new city hospital and the hospital commissioners decided to put a halt in their plan for the admission of pulmonary TB, and the Board of Tuberculosis Hospital was given $25,000 to erect a hospital for the care of advanced cases of P-TB. Due to constant need for repairs on the wooden structures, need for a more durable structure, as well as need for more beds so that people would not be turned away.
In March of 1924, the construction of a five-story building was constructed which could hold more than 400 patients. October 17th, 1926 that construction was finished, but after the introduction of streptomycin in 1943, the number of TB cases gradually lowered, until there was no longer need for such a large hospital. The remaining patients were sent to Hazelwood Sanatorium in Louisville. Waverly Hills then closed their doors in June 1961.
Our Story Behind the Investigation
March 5th, 2025
Team arrived at Waverly around 8pm with 4 other Guest. as we entered the facility, we all were greeted by a tour guide, after she told us the usual stuff before we all started to do our investigation. we started from the fifth floor and worked our way down. Although we only had personal experiences from 5th floor to 2nd floor and the Body chute, we had more activity on the first-floor lobby area. it was said by our tour guide that there was a male spirit to whom they believe was not a patient there, this spirit reportedly hated women. as we investigated the first floor, we decided to go back up to the 4th floor, but as we packed up Chris, Ryne and one of the guests decided to stay down there because the Shandlers were moving so they decided to stay. a little time goes by and we head back to the 1st floor because we had luck, and we had very intense feeling that the whole floor came back to life.
